FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Far-UVC?
"Far-UVC" is the lower wavelength's part of spectrum of UVC. The term “Far-UVC” describes light with wavelength 180-230nm. Today this light emitted by Atlas Far-UVC disinfection system. This light has shorter wavelength of comnon sun light and this is why delivers extremely high energy.
How was Far-UVC discovered?
Far-UVC found in 2013, when Professor David Brenner, director of the Radiology Research Center at the Columbia University School of Public Health, discovered that shortwave length ultraviolet C band light can potentially be used as a human safe disinfection measure, and conducted experiments to prove the efficiency and safety. In 2018, Dr. Brenner published a paper on 222nm wavelength far-UVC light in Nature’s “Scientific Reports” confirming that far ultraviolet rays do not harm the skin and eyes. In 2020, Dr. Brenner published another paper in “Scientific Reports” showing that far ultraviolet rays can effectively inactivate coronaviruses and are safe for humans.
How can Far-UVC inactivate viruses while being safe for human skin and eyes?
As a matter of basic physics, 222nm far ultraviolet light is strongly absorbed by all biological material up to 1-2 micrometers. Human cells are about 40 micrometers. It cannot penetrate the top dead cell layer, stratum corneum, of our skin or the tear layer of the eyes, therefore it can’t harm living cells.
How effective is Far-UVC in inactivating viruses?
A dose of 222nm far ultraviolet as low as 1.2-1.7mJ/cm2 can inactivate 99.9% of the new airborne coronavirus. Far-UVC does not only sterilizes (makes the virus unable to reproduce itself) but also decomposes the protein membrane of the virus. This is total elimination. Atlas Far-UVC block230 70W can inactivate 99% of coronaviruses in 6 seconds and 99.9% of coronaviruses in 12seconds in 1 meter distance!!! If Atlas Far-UVC combined with photocatalytic filters then it will be able to decompose all viruses to harmless CO2 and moisture. Is 222nm far ultraviolet light (far-UVC) really safe? Any prrof?
In 2020, Kobe University scientists conducted skin irradiation experiments using hairless mice. The effects of conventional 254nm ultraviolet rays – used for decades to disinfect unoccupied spaces such as hospitals and surgical theaters – were compared with 222nm far ultraviolet rays. After up to 96 hours of irradiation exposure, the skin of the mice irradiated with 222nm showed no adverse reaction, while the skin of 254nm irradiated mice suffered burns. Irradiation experiments were also conducted on the eyes of mice (their eye structure is similar to humans), to compare the results of 254nm versus 222nm exposure. After 254nm ultraviolet irradiation, mice eyes developed keratitis, while 222nm far ultraviolet irradiation had no effect. Kobe University also tested 222nm irradiation exposure on a group of human volunteers using a very safe dose on their backs without harm.
Any proof of the effectiveness of 222nm Far-UVC?
In November 2020, the authoritative scientific journal “Nature” published an experimental paper that concluded: “Using far ultraviolet disinfection equipment can significantly reduce the virus concentration around the virus source, and the effect is comparable to N95 masks.
Who developed the ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 disinfection system?
ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 is a filtered far ultraviolet disinfection technology developed by Theodore Karavassilis and ATLAS PV COMMERCIAL MANUACTURING SINGLE MEMBER PC and uses the Far-UVC lamps of FOSHAN YUQI AVIATION OPTICES CO. The 2 companies joined forces to present you the best and safest far-UVC disinfection system combined with optic filters and photocatalytic air filters able to sterilize ALL the room and not only one part of it.
How does ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 disinfection system inactivate viruses?
ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 disinfection system emits far ultraviolet light through a special optican nanofilter which blocks wavelengths from 230-260nm which affects human cells and allows only wavelengths 200-230nm to be emitted, so deactivates the DNA or RNA molecular structure and decomposes proteinmembrane of bacteria, sporophytes, and viruses.
How does ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 Air-tunnel disinfection system inactivate viruses?
ATLAS™ FarUVC block230 Air-Tunnel disinfection system is the next Generation of far-UVC today. ATLAS brings the future today. While all far UVC devices emits far-UVC in a specific width, this means that more than 50% of the area of a room can not be sterilized. For example if we mountain the lamp on the ceiling, this meam will be expanded from the ceiling to the floor and will cover all the floor (3 meters down) but 2 meters over the floor the beam will not be so wide and will sterilize only 11% of the space because it will be focused on the 11% of the space. If it covers 3x3 meters (9 square meters) only in the floor. 2 meters over the floor will cover 1x1 meter = 1 square meter only. What block230 Air-Tunnel does, is that uses photocatalysis filters and passes air through the far-UVC lamp and sterilizes the air of the room that far-UVC beam can not sterilize!!! Far-UVC in combination with photocatalytic microfiber filters decomposes all viruses in CO2 and moisture. So the ATLAS Far-UVC block230 Air-Tunnel is the only system that sterilizes ALL the space and not a part of the space like ALL the other far-UVC do.
What are the advantages of Atlas Far-UVC block230 Air-Tunnel system technology versus traditional disinfection applications?
Atlas Far-UVC block230 Air-Tunnel system emits pure 222nm filtered far ultraviolet disinfection that effectively inactivates harmful microorganisms in the air and on surfaces. The Atlas Far-UVC block230 Air-Tunnel system can be used safely and continuously in human environments including crowded indoor spaces. Conventional ultraviolet UVC sterilization (254nm), used extensively in hospitals and surgery theatres, cannot be used in human environments because they can cause skin cancer and eye damage. Air purification disinfection equipment offers low efficiency only inactivating harmful airborne microorganisms with no effect on pathogens attached to the surface of objects and people. Chemical disinfection is labor intensive requiring continued applications, leaves chemical residues, and can be harmful to the human body. Also the add-on Air-Tunnel with photocatalysis microfiber filters sterilizes ALL the space and not a part of the space as all Far-UVCs do.
